TeX Live 2009 erschienen
Nach Entwicklung und vielen Wochen Tests, letzten Fehlerbehebungen und Übersetzungen ist heute TeX Live 2009 veröffentlicht worden.
Einige Neuerungen und Verbesserungen in 2009:
- pdf(La)TeX wandelt nun automatisch eingebundene eps-Dateien in pdf um unter Verwendung des epstopdf-Paketes, wenn graphics.cfg geladen ist und pdf-Ausgabe gewählt wurde.
- Die Ausführung externer Programme, wie beispielsweise epstopdf, makeindex und bibtex, mittels write18 feature, ist nun per Voreinstellung erlaubt. Welchen Programmes das gestattet ist, wird durch die Datei texmf.cnf bestimmt.
- Überarbeitete AMS Type 1 Schriften sind enthalten, die Euler.Schriften wurden neu gestaltet.
- Der neue Editor TeXworks ist dabei, in Versionen für Windows und MacTeX. Andere Systeme wie Ubuntu und Debian Linux werden diesen plattformübergreifenden Editor über ihr eigenes Paket-System bereitstellen.
- Asymptote liegt für mehrere Plattformen bei.
- dvipdfm wurde ersetzt durch dvipdfmx.
- pdf ist für Lua(La)TeX nun das Standardausgabeformat. dvi-Ausgabe kann durch die neuen Programme dviluatex und dvilualatex erhalten werden.
Meiner Meinung nach ist dies ein großer Schritt voran, beispielsweise hängen Linux Distributionen wie Ubuntu und Debian Linux bis heute immer noch an TL 2007. Während das Paketieren von TL 2008 für Debian und damit Ubuntu übersprungen wurde, ist TL 2009 dafür aktuell in Anpassung befindlich, was wir der Arbeit vor allem von Norbert Preining und Frank Küster verdanken. Obwohl v2008 und v2009 auf Linux sehr gut funktionieren, ist es wichtig, TeX durch die Distributions-Archive bereitzustellen, dann sind weniger workarounds nötig, um definierte Abhängigkeiten zu erfüllen.
Ubuntu 9.10 “Karmic Koala” released
Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop, Server and Netbook editions have been released today. The new version is starting even faster than the previous one, is using the ext4 file system by default, the GNOME 2.28 desktop environment and the GRUB 2 boot manager, it comes with a lot of software updates. Outstanding are the new Ubuntu Software Center and Ubuntu One, the cloud system. To learn about the new features have a look at the feature overview.

Ubuntu 9.10 “Karmic Koala” Release Party
Karmic Koala is coming, its release is scheduled for tomorrow, Ubuntu user groups all around the world will celebrate the release with parties, so we will do in Berlin.
For the 8th time the Ubuntu-Berlin user group will give a party at their favorite hacker location c-base. It will take place on Saturday, October 31st, entry is free. Talks and presentations will be held, Ubuntu 9.10 can be tested, help for installation will be given, experienced users will answer questions. WLAN is available for free. Every time I’ve been there, several times during the years, it has been a very pleasant evening.

TexmakerX 1.9.2 veröffentlicht
Die neue Version 1.9.2 des LaTeX-Editors TexmakerX wurde heute freigegeben. Diese Version bietet mehrere neue Features und behebt einige Fehler. TexmakerX ist Variante des viel genutzten Editors Texmaker. Die aktuelle Version hat Neuerungen des originalen Texmaker 1.9.2 übernommen und bietet weitere Features wie Vorschau für markierten Text, einen Zufalls-Text-Generator, ein Synonymwörterbuch, verbesserte Bedienbarkeit, neue Vorlagen und Symbole und mehr.

TexmakerX 1.9.2 published
The new version TexmakerX 1.9.2 has been released today. This version brings several new features and fixes some bugs. TexmakerX is a fork of the LaTeX editor Texmaker. It has adopted changes of the original Texmaker 1.9.2 and provides further features like preview for marked text, a random text generator, a synonym dictionary, improved usability, new templates and symbols and more.

TeXnicCenter 2.0 alpha 1 veröffentlicht
Die erste Alpha-Version des LaTeX-Editors TeXnicCenter 2.0 wurde heute veröffentlicht. Es handelt sich um eine Entwicklerversion für Testzwecke, doch sie zeigt schon, dass die Entwicklung voranschreitet und bietet einen Eindruck der kommenden Version.
Einige der neuen Features sind:
- eine neue Editor-Komponente, auf Scintilla basierend, mit Zoom-Möglichkeit, Proportional-Schriften und Code-Faltung,
- Unicode-Unterstützung, die das Schreiben in Russisch, Hebräisch, Chinesisch, Japanisch, Koreanisch etc. ermöglicht,
- verbesserte Benutzer-Schnittstelle,
- verbesserte BibTeX-Unterstützung.
TXC 2.0 wurde mit Visual Studio 2008 entwickelt, jedoch nicht mit der freien Version, denn Zugriff auf MFC wird benötigt. Mitarbeit und Hilfe bei der Weiterentwicklung ist willkommen, bei Interesse kontakte den Entwickler Tino Weinkauf.

TeXnicCenter 2.0 alpha 1 released
The first alpha version of the upcoming Version 2.0 of the LaTeX editor TeXnicCenter has been released today. It is a development version, not stable, just released for testing, but it shows that the development is in progress and it gives an impression of the new version.
Some of the new features are:
- a new editor component based on Scintilla providing zoom, proportional fonts and code folding,
- Unicode support to enable writing in Russian, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, …
- improved modern user interface, the tool windows could be rearranged,
- improved BibTeX support regarding error parsing, search in literature tool window.
TXC 2.0 has been developed with Visual Studio 2008, not with the free version because access to the MFC is needed. Help in development is welcome, if you’re interested contact the maintainer Tino Weinkauf.

REVTeX 4.1 Released
The first update to REVTeX since 2001 has been released yesterday, today it’s been uploaded to CTAN. REVTeX 4.1 is a set of LaTeX2e macro packages. It is especially well-suited for preparing manuscripts for submission to the journals of the American Physical Society (APS) and American Institute of Physics (AIP). The Version 4.1 brings bug fixes, improved functionality and support for a wider range of journals.

LaTeX auf der Ubucon 2009
Die Konferenz für die deutschsprachige Ubuntu Linux Community “Ubucon” wird vom 19. bis 22. Oktober 2009 bereits zum dritten Mal stattfinden, in der Georg August Universität in Göttingen.
Das Konferenzprogramm enthält drei LaTeX-Veranstaltungen:
- LaTeX im Jahr 2009: Vorstellung neuer TeX Software wie TeX Live 2009, Biber, Asymptote, LuaTeX und XeTeX, auch kleinere Tools werden präsentiert. Freitag, 16-18 Uhr.
- LaTeX-Workshop für Einsteiger: der Workshop stellt das Textsatzsystem vor und zeigt grundlegende Fähigkeiten und Befehle. Empfohlen wird das Mitbringen eines eigenen Laptops zum Mitmachen. Samstag, 9-11 Uhr.
- Magazinerstellung mit LaTeX: ein Workshop, der sich mit Methoden wie textumflossenen Bildern u.a. beschäftigt, die für die Produktion von Magazinen nützlich sind. Auch hier ist das Mitbringen eines Laptops empfehlenswert. Samstag, 11-13 Uhr.

LaTeX at the Ubucon 2009
The German Ubuntu Linux User Conference “Ubucon” will be held for the third time in Göttingen, hosted by the Georg August University, October 19-22, 2009.
The conference program includes three LaTeX events:
- LaTeX in the year 2009: talk about new TeX software and features like TeX Live 2009, Biber, Asymptote, LuaTeX and XeTeX, further small tools will be presented. Friday, 4-6pm.
- LaTeX introduction for new users: a workshop introducing the LaTeX system, presenting basic features and commands. Users are encouraged to bring their own laptops to the workshop for participation. Saturday, 9-11am.
- Producing magazines with LaTeX: a workshop for advanced users dealing with layout topics like wrapping text around figures with the goal of creating a magazine. Users should join with a laptop. Saturday, 11-13am.

Niederländisches LaTeX-Forum gegründet
Heute wurde das Nederlandstalig LaTeX Forum durch Frank Puttemans gegründet, ein LaTeX Forum in niederländischer Sprache. Insbesondere Niederländisch-sprechende LaTeX-Anwender sind eingeladen, dem Forum beizutreten, Diskussionen zu beginnen, Wissen auszutauschen und Fragen anderer Nutzer zu beantworten. Der erste Forum-Beitrag wurde heute geschrieben, mehr werden folgen.

Dutch LaTeX Forum founded
The Nederlandstalig LaTeX Forum has been founded by Frank Puttemans today. It’s a LaTeX Forum in Dutch language. Especially Dutch-speaking LaTeX users are invited to join the forum, to open discussions, to share knowledge and to answer questions of other users. The first forum post has been written today, there’s more to come.
