KOMA-Script 3.05 veröffentlicht
Markus Kohm hat am 15.2.2010 die Version 3.05 von KOMA-Script veröffentlicht. 3.04a war über viele Monate hinweg das aktuellste Release und wird vom Autor als besonders stabil betrachtet, weshalb erst jetzt einige Verbesserungen zu einem neuen Release führten. Hierzu gehören Erweiterungen in scrlttr2, die neuen Pseudolängen firstheadhpos und firstfoothpos, Verbesserungen in scrhack sowie eine Korrektur in tocbasic.

KOMA-Script 3.05 released
On Feb 15th the Version 3.05 of KOMA-Script has been released by Markus Kohm. 3.04 has been the most recent release for many months and is rated as very stable by the author, but know some improvements have led to the new release. These include extensions in scrlttr2, the new pseudolengths firstheadhpos and firstfoothpos, improvements in scrhack and a correction in tocbasic.

Texmaker 1.9.9 veröffentlicht
Die Version 1.9.9 des freien LaTeX-Editors Texmaker wurde gestern veröffentlicht. Nun bietet Texmaker u.a. zusätzlich:
- verbatim-Unterstützung beim Syntax-Highlighting,
- Shortcuts für die “nächster/voriger LaTeX-Fehler”-Befehle,
- einen “escape”-Shortcut zum Schließen des “find”-Panels,
- eine neue Option für die User tags (siehe changelog oder Doku),
- schnelle Änderung von Shortcuts durch direktes Drücken der Tastenfolge,
- Aufnahme der Blöcke eines beamer-Dokuments in die Strukturansicht.

Texmaker 1.9.9 released
The version 1.9.9 of the free LaTeX editor Texmaker has been released yesterday. Texmaker is now providing additionally:
- verbatim support in the syntax highlighting,
- shortcuts for the “next/previous latex error” commands,
- an “escape” shortcut to close the “find” panel,
- a new option for the user tags (see changelog or documentation),
- quick change of shortcuts by pressing the key sequence directly,
- inclusion of the blocks of a beamer document in the structure view.

LaTeX-Award on Matheplanet.com
Today Matheplanet.com has celebrated its annual awards for the 8th time. Members of the forum were honored for their contributions during the last year, 260 members have voted this time. There were many categories, from mathematics and physics to LaTeX and more.
In the LaTeX category Marco_D and I have got an award with only one vote difference. Congratulations to Marco and I thank the Matheplanet members very much for their votes.

LaTeX-Award auf Matheplanet.com
Heute wurden auf Matheplanet.com zum 8. Mal die jährlichen Awards verliehen. Damit werden Mitglieder des Forums für ihre Beiträge des vergangenen Jahres ausgezeichnet, 260 Mitglieder haben in diesem Jahr ihre Stimmen abgegeben. Es wurde in verschiedenen Rubriken nominiert, von Mathematik und Physik bis Informatik und LaTeX und anderen mehr.
In der LaTeX-Kategorie wurde Marco_D und mir ein Award verliehen, mit nur einer Stimme Unterschied quasi gleichauf. Ich gratuliere Marco herzlich und ich bedanke mich für die abgegebenen Stimmen.

Issue 03 of the LaTeX3 news has been published today.
TeXnicCenter 2.0 Alpha 2 erschienen
Die zweite Alpha-Version des neuen TeXnicCenter 2.0 wurde heute veröffentlicht Diese Version wurde zu Testzwecken freigegeben, sie ist nicht stabil und kann abstürzen. Sie kann neben TeXnicCenter Version 1 verwendet werden, wenn man beide in unterschiedliche Verzeichnisse installiert hat.
Viele Probleme aus Alpha 1 sind behoben worden. Für mehr Informationen zu Verbesserungen und bekannten Problemen siehe die Ankündigung des TeXnicCenter Teams.

TeXnicCenter 2.0 Alpha 2 released
The second Alpha version of the new TeXnicCenter 2.0 has been released today. It is not stable, very likely to crash and intended for testing only. It’s designed to work alongside TeXnicCenter Version 1, both can be used when installed in different directories.

EtherPad goes open source
The source code of EtherPad, a web-based word processor that allows people to work together in real-time, has been released by the developers. Now it’s possible to run EtherPad on other servers than just etherpad.com. Alternative servers like the swedish PiratePad have already been established.
This collaborative editor provides an update speed of twice a second making it very responsive. Though it’s a plain text editor it could be used to produce LaTeX code collaboratively. There are already semi-automatic solutions using perl and ruby. Together with an online compiler EtherPad could be a useful feature in LaTeX discussion forums helping to solve user’s problems and to develop solutions.
LyX 1.6.5 released
The maintenance release 1.6.5 of LyX has been published yesterday. It brings bug-fixes, new layouts and modules and some feature requests have been implemented. The LyX team recommends to upgrade to this version.

TeX Live 2009 released
After development and many weeks of testing, final bug fixing and translations the new TeX Live 2009 has been released today.
Some changes and improvements in 2009:
- pdf(La)TeX now automatically converts included eps files to pdf, using the epstopdf package, if graphics.cfg is loaded and pdf output is chosen.
- The execution of certain external commands, for example epstopdf, makeindex, and bibtex, using write18, is now enabled by default. The texmf.cnf file determines those commands.
- Updated AMS Type 1 fonts are included, the Euler fonts have been reshaped.
- The new editor TeXworks is included for Windows and MacTeX. Other distributions like Ubuntu and Debian Linux will provide this cross-platform editor with their own packaging system.
- Asymptote is included for several platforms.
- dvipdfm has been replaced by dvipdfmx.
- pdf is now the default output format for Lua(La)TeX. dvi output can be achieved by using the new executables dviluatex and dvilualatex.
In my opinion it’s a big step forward because several Linux Distributions like Ubuntu and Debian Linux are clinging to TL 2007 until now. While TL 2008 has been skipped the packaging for TL 2009 for Debian and Ubuntu is in progress, thanks to the work of especially Norbert Preining and Frank Küster. Though v2008 and v2009 worked fine on Linux it’s important to provide TeX with the distribution repositories, less workarounds will be necessary.
