Evince available for Windows
September 30th, 2009 by Stefan Kottwitz
The free document viewer Evince is now available for Windows operating systems. The developer team provided an msi installer file together with the new release 2.28.0. Evince is the standard pdf viewer for the GNOME desktop environment, beside pdf it’s able to show postscript, djvu, tiff and dvi documents. Evince is popular as a previewer among LaTeX users for instance on Ubuntu Linux where GNOME is the default desktop environment.

Hello,
any idea why the Windows version of Evince does not support DVI files?
I’ve been looking for an alternative to YAP and I thought this might be it!

At the moment I cannot test it on Windows, I’m only working with Linux. You could contact the Evince developers using the mailing list, visit

Evince 2.30 for Windows is just released.
It supports viewing of pdf, postscript and djvu.
Viewing of dvi files is also possible when you have a TeX distribution installed somewhere in your path.

I just hate when Linux software are released for other operating systems. Like Windows users don’t have enough PDF viewers already…
We still have Ardour, at least. Oh no! There is a Mac version? Shame…
